The email notification popped up on her phone, and Sarah dropped her coffee mug, the ceramic shattering on the kitchen tile. The noise startled her, but it did not register compared to the flood of dread washing over her. She stared at the screen, her eyes wide, her breath caught in her throat.

She ran her hands over her face, feeling the cold sting of tears that were threatening to spill. Her stomach twisted, and a metallic taste filled her mouth. The information, if true, could affect her life permanently.
