The office air grew thick and heavy as he digested the news. His usual sharp focus deserted him, replaced by a profound feeling of instability. The fluorescent lights seemed to flicker erratically, mimicking the unsettling sensation in his chest. A sudden chill shot through him, and he instinctively wrapped his arms around himself.

He stared at the email, his eyes darting back and forth, trying to make sense of the decree. He felt as if the ground had shifted beneath his feet. The familiar rhythm of his day, the comfortable routine he craved, was abruptly shattered.

He went to the window, the city skyline offering no solace.
