The world narrowed to a tunnel, and the bear was the only thing at the end. David felt a wave of nausea. He hadn't expected to encounter *him* here. He felt a sudden, irrational urge to scream. The sunlight seemed to drain of color.

"Oh wow, that's a blast from the past!" The man running the yard sale slapped his knee and chuckled. "My kid loved that thing!" David wanted to argue, to deny it, but no words would come.

He grabbed the bear, feeling the worn fabric against his skin. This felt wrong. He had to know where it had been. He had to know who had had it. He started to walk toward his car, still clutching the bear, his mind racing.
