"To a special someone." The words were printed in a generic font. Maria stared at the card. It was strange. She didn't recognize the handwriting. It didn't feel right.

She instinctively glanced around her, as though expecting someone to emerge from the bushes. The feeling wasn't one of outright fear, but more like a prickling sensation, a sense that something was out of place. This feeling intensified when she picked up the card, feeling the coldness of the paper.

She closed the door behind her, locking it with a decisive click. She walked slowly through the house, checking each room, each window. Her breath became shallow as she made her way through the rooms. She found it hard to breathe.
