Gemotions

The card was wedged between a flyer and a magazine. David squinted at it. A generic "Happy Birthday!". No name, no return address. A coldness spread through him. He felt a profound disorientation.

He immediately turned and checked the street. He felt like his stomach was twisting. He looked at the card again, but it offered no answers. The words seemed to mock him.

He crumpled it up, but then he quickly smoothed it out, as if compelled to understand. He started to feel as if he were being watched. He went back inside, his movements hurried. He went to the kitchen and grabbed a glass of water, his hands trembling.
