"Honey, come look at this," Emily called, her voice tight. Mark hurried into the spare bedroom, expecting to see a spider or some other mundane issue. Instead, he saw her staring at the bookshelf, her face pale.

The shelf itself tilted at an angle, and the books were slightly askew. “What is it?” he asked, trying to sound calm, but his own pulse was quickening now.

She gestured toward the books. “There’s something behind them.” Hesitantly, he pulled the books aside. A section of the wall, seemingly a solid fixture, gave way with a silent push. He stared, completely stunned, at the dark, narrow opening. He felt a deep unease bubble in his chest.
