He tried to meet Kevin's gaze, but his eyes darted around, unable to settle. The room seemed suddenly too small, too close. He wanted to scream, to lash out, but the words were stuck in his throat.

He busied himself with a sudden, urgent need to clean his desk, rearranging books, wiping down surfaces with unnecessary force. The simple act gave him a semblance of control in a situation that felt utterly out of his control. He hated that feeling.
