Sarah's breath hitched as Liam casually mentioned the possibility of a ferret. A ferret! She clenched her jaw, the muscles in her face rigid. The cozy, meticulously organized apartment felt suddenly too small, the air thick with an unspoken pressure. She glanced around, cataloging the breakable objects, the white carpeting, the sheer chaos a ferret could unleash.

“A ferret?” she echoed, her voice thin, almost a squeak. Her eyes darted around the room, taking in every potential source of disaster. She fought the urge to bolt, to escape the suffocating weight of this new, terrifying idea. Her fingers tightened into fists.
