The silence in the post office was deafening. Sarah had waited in line for an hour to pick up a package. It was finally her turn, and she handed over her ID. The clerk disappeared for a moment, then returned with a small, flat envelope.

Her heart began to race. She knew. She simply knew. Her hands shook as she opened the envelope. The paper felt like a lead weight in her trembling hands.

The news was worse than she'd imagined. A sharp pain shot through her chest. Her breath grew shallow. She managed to mumble a thank you and scurried out of the post office, the letter crumpled tightly in her fist.
