He read the news in the library, and the words swam before his eyes. A wave of heat washed over him, followed by a chill that settled deep in his bones. David felt a growing sense of panic. This was the one place he had thought was secure.

His hands started to sweat, clinging to the worn pages of the book he was supposed to be studying. He could no longer focus.

He felt the sudden need to move, to do something, anything. He closed his book with a loud thud, the sound echoing through the quiet room. He stood up abruptly, and stumbled toward the exit.
