The laptop screen glowed a malevolent blue in the dim room. Sarah felt a prickling sensation on her skin, a sudden chill despite the humid evening. She hadn't expected to find this. David’s usual work emails, a spreadsheet for his accounting job, and then… this. A Word document titled "Her Smile, Chapter One."

Her breath hitched. She scrolled down, heart hammering against her ribs. Fictionalized, of course, but the details… the cafe they frequented, the way she habitually tapped her foot, the stupid jokes she made that he always pretended to hate but secretly loved. It was her, laid bare, dissected, and then reassembled on the page. She slammed the lid shut. Her hands trembled.
