Michael stared at the manuscript, its title a mocking echo of their life: "Two Hearts, One Lie." His stomach churned. He’d stumbled upon it while looking for a recipe. Emily, his Emily, described as a manipulative, cold woman, using him for his money. He felt a wave of nausea, the room blurring around him.

He reread the passage describing their first date, twisted and distorted. He squeezed his eyes shut, trying to fight back the rising tide of… something unpleasant. He wanted to scream. He wanted to throw the laptop across the room. Instead, he slowly, deliberately, closed the file and put the computer away. He’d wait for her to come home.
