Eliza’s vision seemed to narrow, focusing solely on the blinking text on the departures board. The delay flashed, taunting her. Her breath hitched in her throat, shallow and rapid. She rubbed her palms together, trying to generate some warmth. The wedding vow renewal. Her parents were waiting.

The drone of the PA system became a distant hum. She felt the muscles in her legs tense, ready to run. The air felt thin.

She started reciting a mantra she had learned in a yoga class. She was still, but something inside her was racing.
