Gemotions

The coffee cup trembled in Sarah's hand, its warmth doing little to soothe the growing chill that settled over her. She stared at the email on her laptop screen, the words of the accusation a jagged scar against the crisp white background. Her fingers danced across the touchpad, reflexively scrolling up and down, as if the motion could somehow erase the damning evidence.

Her vision tunneled. She noticed the way sunlight illuminated dust motes in the air, a phenomenon she'd never before observed with such intensity. Her ears throbbed with a low, insistent hum, like a distant engine revving.

“Just tell me it’s not true,” her roommate whispered from across the room.
