The room seemed to spin. He felt a sudden, electric charge run through him. Every detail became hyper-focused: the sparkle of the bride’s ring, the clinking of glasses, the beat of the music.

He spotted her near the bar, talking animatedly with friends. He forced a smile, but his jaw felt tight. He took a sip of water, trying to regulate his breathing. He willed his heart to slow down.
