Mark paced the length of the living room, a restless energy coursing through him. He couldn’t seem to settle. The school newsletter lay open on the coffee table, the teacher’s name, Ms. Thompson, staring back at him. *Ms. Thompson*. The woman who had given him a detention for "excessive talking." A wave of heat washed over him.

He pictured his daughter, Chloe, a bubbly, enthusiastic girl. Would Ms. Thompson see her the way she saw him, a disruptive force? He clenched his jaw. This could be a disaster. He had to be prepared. He stopped pacing and started going through the mail again.
