Eliza’s vision seemed to narrow, focusing solely on the name at the top of the classroom assignment: Mr. Finch. A shiver ran down her spine, a familiar chill she hadn't felt in years. He was the reason she had given up on science. Her fingers tightened around the paper.

She found herself walking towards her son, Ben, who was in the middle of a video game. "Ben, do you… do you know who your science teacher is?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper. Ben glanced up, his expression neutral. "Yeah, Mr. Finch. Why?" Eliza couldn't bring herself to answer. She needed a drink of water.
