The morning sun, sharp and unwavering, sliced across the freshly cut lawn. Amelia stretched, a keen awareness prickling her skin. She'd been up before dawn, restless energy bubbling inside her. Now, standing on her porch, coffee in hand, she found her usual view disrupted. Her beat-up Volvo, typically a comforting presence, was gone. A sudden, cold certainty gripped her. Where was it?

She scanned the street, her gaze whipping back and forth. Gone. She ran down the steps, coffee sloshing over the side of the mug, and circled the empty space where her car always sat. Nothing. Her heart rate accelerated, a frantic drum against her ribs. She didn't remember parking it anywhere else.
