The sterile white walls of the hospital room seemed to constrict around Daniel. He leaned forward in his chair, his gaze fixed on his sister, Chloe, who sat serenely on the edge of his bed. "The accident… you remember it being the red car, right?"

Chloe smiled. "Of course! The red car ran the stop sign. I still have nightmares about it." Her eyes were soft, and her voice was steady. It didn’t match his memory at all, and it felt very wrong.

Daniel took a deep breath, the air thick with antiseptic. "No. The red car was fine. It was the blue minivan that ran the light. I… I saw it all happen from across the street." He was gripped with a powerful need to clarify.

Chloe’s smile faltered, and a flicker of something he couldn't name appeared in her eyes. "Daniel, you must be mistaken. You’ve been through a lot. The red car was speeding. You saved my life." She reached out and took his hand. He flinched at the touch.

Daniel pulled his hand away. "But... I don't remember saving anyone, Chloe. I remember watching, helpless, as the blue van…." He couldn't finish the sentence. The details swam back, and his head throbbed.
