The afternoon sun was a harsh spotlight. Clara felt a strange restlessness. She’d been sitting at her desk, editing a novel. Then she saw the press release. Her historical fiction novel, about to be published, was now credited to another author. Not only that, the other author was already on a major book tour, promoting… her book.

Her heart hammered against her ribs, a frantic bird. She stood and paced the small confines of her room, the wood floorboards groaning under her agitated steps. She had to talk to her agent. Now. She had to fight for what was hers.

The world seemed to vibrate around her. She needed to move, to speak, to stop this from continuing.
