The silence of the late-night diner was oppressive. David's eyes flitted between the newspaper article and the empty coffee cup in his hands. He re-read the headline, “New Breakthrough in Cancer Research.” He had written it, of course. His name? Nowhere to be found.

He pushed his plate away, suddenly unable to stomach the lukewarm food. He felt a rising heat in his chest, a burning sensation that spread through his limbs. The world around him seemed to blur.

He slammed his fist on the table, the sound echoing in the deserted diner. He needed to find the source of the leak, to correct this injustice. He had to act.
