"Cancelled," the text message read. A tremor shot through David. He reread it, as if the words might somehow change. Nope. Still cancelled. He took a deep breath, and it didn't do anything to calm the rush of activity in his system. His palms began to sweat.

He slammed his fist on the table. The sound echoed in the empty room. He needed action. He needed something to *absorb* this… this… feeling. He shot up from his chair.

He started grabbing items around the room. Pens, books, the remote control. He couldn't help but look at the photo of him on the mantle, all ready for the party. He needed something to do. He picked up his phone and began to make calls.
