Gemotions

The keys felt weighty in her palm. Sarah, standing outside the house, felt all of her senses amplify. The sounds of the neighborhood, the distant chatter, the cars, were clear and sharp. She held the key out, and with a breath, put the key in the lock.

She stepped into the hallway. The stale air pressed against her skin. Her eyes darted from wall to wall, searching for something… anything. Her brother, Mark, trailing behind her, was complaining.

Ignoring him, she quickly moved through the house, her feet carrying her. She touched everything, examined every picture, every piece of furniture, and every knick-knack.

She felt like she was being propelled forward by some unseen force. The past, and the future, were all right here, right now.
