Gemotions

A chill shivered down David's spine as he carefully peeled back the layers of a photo album. He hadn't expected to find this. His grandfather, the stern judge, was leaning against a flashy convertible, hand casually resting on the shoulder of a woman in a flapper dress. His jaw tightened. The blood in his veins seemed to hum.

He’d always heard tales of his grandfather’s quiet life of service. The man in the photograph, however, exuded a different kind of energy, one that spoke of laughter and illicit fun.

A small tremor ran through his hand as he turned the page. His grandfather, holding a bottle of champagne in the photo, was now staring at a camera. The woman next to him beamed at the lens. David’s eyes darted around the room, trying to make some sense of it.
