Gemotions

The old house creaked around him as Samuel searched through the cluttered basement. He felt a need to move, to understand. He was drawn to a dusty box tucked away in a dark corner. He pried open the lid and sifted through yellowed photographs and forgotten trinkets. His breath caught in his throat as he picked up a letter, a resignation from his grandfather’s position at the local newspaper. The ink was faded, but the message was clear. He felt the blood rush to his head, a burning sensation behind his eyes. He sat up, his body taut with a sudden, all-consuming interest in the words before him.
