The silence had shattered. One moment, the house was a haven of quiet; the next, a cacophony of amplified music. David sat up in bed, his eyes snapping open. A wave of adrenaline surged through him, making his skin tingle. He felt his muscles tense.

He scanned the room. Everything was in its place, mundane and safe. But the noise, the relentless drumming, threatened to unravel that peace. He leaped out of bed, his feet hitting the floor with a decisive thud.

He went to the window, peering out. He saw a moving light inside the offending apartment. He would confront the source of this disruption. He was ready.
