The world felt too loud, too bright. Amelia pressed her hands against her temples. The insistent beat, a percussive assault, was making her head throb. She sat bolt upright in bed, her body buzzing with an uncomfortable energy. The room felt too small, the air thick.

She shoved the covers aside and leapt from the bed. She wouldn't be able to rest like this. She moved with a strange speed, her movements precise and deliberate. She had to take action.
