The world felt crisp. Every detail, every texture, was heightened to an almost unbearable degree. Daniel could hear the rustle of leaves, smell the damp earth, feel the slight shift in the air pressure.

He couldn't sit still. He walked briskly through the park, his eyes scanning everything, absorbing every sight. A sense of urgency, of pressure, drove him forward.

He met her by the duck pond. She was sketching, her head bent, a fierce look of concentration on her face. They started talking, and he found a kindred spirit in her.
