"You, Jackson, you're the new quarterback." The words were delivered with a casual air, but inside Jackson, something detonated. He was a linebacker; strength, grit, tackles. He'd never even *dreamed* of throwing a football. He stood frozen, his mouth slightly agape, staring at Coach Miller. The stadium lights seemed brighter, the roar of the crowd momentarily muted.

He fumbled the first snap. His arms felt heavy, unwieldy. He threw a wobbly pass. But then, on the third play, something clicked. He saw the field, the receivers, a whole new landscape of possibilities. Completing a long pass, he felt a surge, a rush he'd never experienced before.

He pumped his fist, feeling a strange, intoxicating feeling bloom within him.
