The air seemed to drain from the room as Amelia listened to Ben's version of their first date. He remembered a fancy restaurant, candlelight, a disastrous attempt at ordering wine, and a charming evening. She remembered a crowded pizza place, spilled marinara sauce, a shared joke about a terrible movie, and feeling utterly herself for the first time.

Her eyes widened, her palms sweating. It was a kaleidoscope of conflicting images swirling in her mind. This was unfathomable! How could the same experience be perceived so completely different by two people who shared it?

She wanted to laugh, to cry, to scream. The world tilted on its axis.
