Liam stared, transfixed, at the overflowing file cabinet in the garage. His mother, bless her heart, was a packrat, but this was something else. He'd been looking for a hammer, not a portal to his past. The labels, typed in a familiar, slightly eccentric font, read: "Leo's Math Problems - All Years."

He reached out, his hand trembling slightly, and pulled open the top drawer. The scent of old paper and ink filled his nostrils. Inside, neatly filed, were every single arithmetic quiz, every geometry proof, every trigonometry assignment from his entire scholastic career.

He sank onto a nearby toolbox, his legs suddenly feeling weak. He flipped through one packet, his eyes widening. A note, scrawled in his mother's handwriting, was at the top of a particularly challenging algebra test: "You can do this, sweetie!" He chuckled, a low, rumbling sound that seemed to surprise him.
