He paced his apartment, the letter clutched tight in his hand. The words swam before his eyes. His medical records, the documents that supposedly chronicled his life, detailed the existence of a severe peanut allergy. He was, in the words of the report, "chronically allergic." He, *John*, who cheerfully devoured peanut butter sandwiches every single day. A grin spread across his face, wide and incredulous.

He stopped, staring at his reflection in the hallway mirror. He looked…different. More vibrant, perhaps? The color seemed to pop on the faded wallpaper behind him. He laughed, a deep, rumbling sound that filled the small space. Grabbing his keys, he impulsively headed for the nearest ice cream shop. Peanut butter swirl, here he came.
