He stood motionless, the unopened card like a burning ember in his hand. He was usually so meticulous, so organized. He prided himself on control. This… this was a disruption. He checked the address. Correct. The date on the card… it was today.

He felt a curious lightness in his limbs. He slowly sat down on the front steps, the cool concrete a welcome contrast to the sudden heat he felt. He opened the card. Inside, a single word: “Enjoy.” He closed his eyes, taking a deep breath.

He began to laugh, a low chuckle that built into something louder and more unrestrained. He thought of all the things he *should* be doing, and then, slowly, he thought of all the things he *wanted* to do.
