The wallpaper peeled back with unexpected ease, revealing a dark, rectangular void. Sarah’s breath hitched. She'd been sanding the dining room wall for hours, meticulously trying to get it ready for a fresh coat of paint. This was a complete surprise. Her hands trembled slightly as she felt for a catch, a hinge, anything that might explain the opening. Finding nothing immediately, she ran her fingers along the edge of the newly revealed space. It was deep, dark, and utterly silent. Her heart pounded in her chest.

"Well, this is… something," she whispered to the empty room. Slowly, she reached for her phone, switching on the flashlight. The beam cut through the blackness, showing rough-hewn wooden studs and a single, rusted hook. This house, she realized, was far more interesting than she'd initially thought.
