The cold seeped into Amelia’s bones as she pried open the panel behind the kitchen pantry. A shiver ran down her spine, not from the temperature, but from… something else. Anticipation, perhaps? Or pure, unadulterated curiosity? The room was small, barely larger than a closet, but filled with old, leather-bound books and strange, unfamiliar instruments. Her fingers traced the spines of the volumes, unable to resist the lure.

"Wow," she breathed, her voice a hushed whisper. She felt a lightness, a sense of wonder she hadn’t experienced in years. The house, she now saw, was a portal.
