He leaned back, the flimsy chair squeaking in protest. The air felt thick, difficult to breathe. He’d recognized her immediately, from the profile picture on "Liam's" phone. She'd seemed so genuine, so perfect. Now, the room spun. This woman, with her bright eyes and nervous laugh, was also "Liam's" girlfriend, the one who cooked elaborate dinners and talked about adopting a cat. He felt a cold dread creep into his bones. He rubbed his temples, a headache already beginning to throb.
