Gemotions

"Did you ever think this would happen?" Mark turned to his sister, who stood beside him in the garden. She stared at the house. He knew she would be thinking of their grandmother.

A slow smile crept across his face as he surveyed the overgrown roses, the crumbling stone walls, the way the sunlight dappled through the leaves. He had been expecting sadness, but instead, he felt a strange lightness, a sense of wonder.

His sister simply shook her head and began to walk towards the back. He followed her, each step feeling like a revelation.
