Jessica felt as though the floor had given way beneath her feet. The journal, lying open on Liam’s bed, the pages filled with her own insecurities and secret hopes, mocked her with its vulnerability. She blinked, her vision momentarily blurring.

She wrapped her arms around herself, trying to steady the tremors that raced through her. It was the brazenness of it all. Liam looked up from his phone, a casual indifference on his face. She felt a peculiar, exhilarating lightness. A giggle bubbled in her throat.

“So, you’re into the drama, huh?” Liam chuckled.
