Gemotions

Jessica, a gymnast, stared at the polished floor of the gym, the reflections of the lights dancing before her eyes. The air smelled of chalk and sweat, a familiar scent that now felt strange, somehow altered. Coach Bradley, usually jovial, was unusually subdued. Her stomach clenched.

"Jessica, I need to speak with you," the coach said, his voice flat.

She felt a wave of cold rush through her, followed by a sudden warmth. Each sound seemed to echo in her ears. The rhythmic creak of the equipment, the hushed whispers of the other gymnasts. She was keenly aware of every tiny detail.

The world seemed to sharpen, to become brilliantly colored, almost luminous. She felt suspended in a dream, a vast, expansive space. The world was utterly altered.
