The crisp white envelope felt strangely heavy in Elias’s hand. He hadn't heard from his old schoolmate, Mark, in fifteen years. A knot tightened in his stomach as he slowly slid the letter opener through the seal. Inside, the handwriting was familiar, looping and slightly messy, just as he remembered. He read the first line, then the second, and the breath hitched in his throat. He reread it. A wave of heat flushed his face, and his fingers trembled as he scanned the page. He walked to the window, letting the late afternoon sun warm his skin while he finished reading. He didn't know what he should do with it.
