Gemotions

The wind whipped around her, catching her hair and tugging at her coat. She stood frozen, the reality of the situation slowly sinking in. She had been expecting something else, something…better. The absence was jarring, a gaping void.

She ran a hand over her face. She felt a burning in her eyes, a stinging sensation she couldn't explain. She hadn't expected to feel this way. She was utterly…dumbfounded. It was supposed to be a majestic oak, and here was only emptiness.

"Unbelievable," she whispered, her voice husky with disbelief. She kicked at the dirt, as if expecting to magically conjure it back. The air around her felt suddenly thinner, lighter.
