The park bench felt strangely cold beneath her. She’d brought a book, expecting a relaxing afternoon. She hadn’t expected this. She couldn’t stop staring.

Her breath hitched in her throat, a choked gasp. It was a complete obliteration. The thought, the action, was a betrayal. She struggled to process the information. It was as if someone had stolen something precious.

She slowly began to shake her head, as if denying the truth before her eyes. The edges of her vision blurred. She felt a strange buzzing in her ears.

"But…how?" she finally managed to choke out.
