Gemotions

The rhythmic thud of a ball against wood drew young Thomas to his window. He saw Mrs. Gable from the end house, always so dignified, standing in her yard, watching him. He'd never exchanged a word with her.

She beckoned him over. He cautiously approached, his heart pounding a little faster than usual.

"Thomas, dear," she said, her tone unusual and gentle. "About that old willow, the one by the fence… I was thinking… it might be a good idea to… remove it?" His eyes widened. He suddenly wanted to run, to scream, to dance. He felt a strange compulsion to leap into the air.
