Gemotions

The doorbell chimed, a cheerful sound that felt at odds with the grey sky pressing against her window. She cautiously peered through the peephole. No one. Hesitantly, she opened the door, finding a vibrant bouquet of sunflowers and lilies perched on the welcome mat. Her breath hitched. She'd been feeling so utterly invisible lately, a shadow blending into the background.

She picked them up, the scent of summer blossoming in her arms. A small, almost involuntary giggle escaped her. Who? Why? There was no note.

She retreated inside, shutting the door gently. She circled the flowers, a slow dance of wonder. The colors, the sheer beauty of them, filled her living room with an unexpected warmth, chasing away the chill. She felt giddy, light-headed.
