The clinking of a trowel and the scrape of shoes on the pavement drew Liam’s attention. He found Mrs. Davis from across the street. She was holding a seed packet, and a little nervousness made her voice shaky as she said, "I wondered... could I possibly... use a bit of your yard for a flower bed?" Liam's heart gave a little skip.

He stared at the woman. The neatness of the proposal took him back, but something about this simple question made him feel a current of pure delight. The possibilities! The potential! His usual apathy evaporated like morning mist.

“Yes, please do!” he found himself exclaiming, his voice louder than intended. “Pick any spot you like!” He began to pace back and forth with pent-up energy.
