The email arrived, a digital slapstick routine. Both Maya and Liam, her closest confidant, had been summoned for an interview at the artisanal cheese shop, "Fromage Fantastique." The thought of them, two such contrasting personalities, vying for the same cheese-mongering position was incredibly diverting.

She pictured Liam, all lumbering enthusiasm and cheesy puns, attempting to charm the stern-faced owner, Madame Dubois. A chuckle escaped her lips. She imagined Madame Dubois’s withering stare directed at him as he attempted a particularly bad joke.

A sudden, sharp giggle escaped her. This was going to be a disaster, or, at the very least, exceptionally entertaining. She grabbed her phone and messaged Liam, “Ready to face off, cheese-lover?”
