He slammed the laptop shut, the cheap plastic casing protesting with a crack. He stalked across the small apartment, kicking a stray shoe under the sofa. The knot in his stomach felt like a cold, hard stone. He’d spent years in that man’s lab, years learning, years *trusting*. Now, just… gone.
