From the moment she'd seen the flashing lights, she knew. Jessica felt her breath catch in her throat. Her heart hammered in her chest, a frantic drumbeat against her ribs. The tow truck was leaving, disappearing down the street. Her heart sank.

She stood frozen, the house key dangling uselessly from her fingers. The blood drained from her face. She felt an urge to run, to chase after the disappearing vehicle, but her legs were leaden.

She slowly began her walk towards the place it was taken. Her world seemed to shrink and narrow, focusing solely on the injustice that had been inflicted. She needed it back.
