The dog whined, sensing her distress. Elena found herself squeezing the small animal tighter. She'd been looking forward to a relaxing day, a chance to unwind. Now, the peace had been shattered.

She began pacing, her steps erratic. The thought of the tow truck driver's smug face, the audacity of the situation, fueled a rising agitation within her.

Her palms began to sweat. Her head felt hot, a dull pressure building behind her eyes. She wanted to scream. Instead, she opened the front door and stalked out into the driveway, hoping to find some answers.
