She tore the letter from the book, the paper ripping slightly at the edges. A tremor ran through her, leaving her hands shaky. The words detailed a cruel joke played on a person, a life ruined by deceit. She felt the heat creeping up her neck, her cheeks burning. A wave of nausea washed over her.

"Damn him," she spat, the words a raw, guttural sound. She kicked at the leg of the chair, the wood groaning in protest. Her breath came in short, shallow gasps. She paced the small room, her mind a whirlwind of furious thoughts. The letter, the words, they were fuel to the fire raging within her.
